This was in 2012 and the Coast Guard housed him in the Coral Reef Inn at the end of Park St. We went a few nights along Park St, but it just seemed slow and the clientele looked like something we would see back in Alaska (minus the winter coats lol). It was just a very old feeling vibe. We then ended up spending the more nights hanging out in Oakland. We didn't go to the Tiki Lounge, but it looks like a fun place.

Tiki Lounge owner moving into former Disco Volante in Oakland - Weekly Dish: Off the Grid to Pleasanton - Diablo Dish - January 2014

Alameda is certainly smaller and sleepier than Oakland. That may or may not be your speed, but it is certainly a fact. Bars are surprisingly divey - reminds me of Capitola in that regard. Nice town, nice expensive houses, and divey/trashy bars.

Odd. I sometimes skip out on SF to go to the bars in Alameda. On the weekends, they are really crowded. Sometimes not being able to get a drink for 10mins. And the restaurants are excellent.

This thread has sold me on Alameda. I hope this doesn't sound like a dumb question but does anyone know if there are ever granny units there for rent? I'd prefer to rent a cottage or house extension rather than an apartment.

Grannies are abundant in the North Bay and it looks like there is a decent amount near Oakland too but I couldn't find any in Alameda on Craig's List.

Sure there are. The odds of you finding one as a total newcomer aren't that great though.

I feel like granny rents aren't going to be as common in Alameda as in other parts ... when I was looking, I didn't really see any in-law units. It's mainly Victorian conversions, hotel conversions, duplexes.
