This is just beyond sad. Looks like much hasn't changed in the Town.
This tightens my stomach to hear that this woman, this mother, this human being has to endure this pain.

Both boys were definitely targets. The younger son only because of the older son. This is psychological criminal behavior. Nothing new or different about it geographically.

Horrible story. I can only hope that the mother is able to endure the never ending pain of losing her children...no matter the cause.

I hope that the consensus in the "not so great parts of Oakland" will somehow have an effect of young black males growing up with such CRA* all around them. I pray that the mothers in these neighborhoods that are already struggling with so much (financial, emotional, societal, familial) can turn all of this around at some point. It's seriously gonna take a village to turn things around. The sooner the better...but it's obviously a long painful road to making things right. Can't imagine what this mom is going through. I sure hope it sparks something in folks in this area---it's just so incredibly sad and pointless to have your children murdered over NOTHING that matters.

I actually don't know what's sadder -- the fact that she's the next in a long line of mothers losing multiple sons to the streets, or the fact the CNN just picked up on something that's been happening for years.

The gang members are certainly much more efficient killers in Oakland judging by the homicide rate.

It was on KTLA too. Mother said she didn't even go to identify her second son. Too much grief.

Yes, being superior in every sense is not always a good thing.

Stuff like this: Startup Weekend Oakland – Black Male Achievement

And this: Yes We Code

And this: The Hidden Genius Project

And this: Black Girls Code** imagine. build. create. - Black Girls Code, BlackGirlsCode, Women of Color in Technology

Part of it is seeing paths out. And the other part is having people around you who believe you can get out.

Wow, this story is so sad. I hope Oakland can get this under control. It certainly is possible, Giuliani did it in New York. New Yorkers were fed up and willing to do whatever it took. Though I'm not sure Oakland residents are ready to admit there is a serious problem, at least from reading some posts on here. It will take someone very un-PC to fix it.
