Again, I'm not asking if middle class blacks want to reside in areas with low income blacks, I'm asking where are the middle class black communities where black middle class residents reside?

Most people of all races prefer to live around others that have the same racial and income classifications. This is no different for black middle class individuals. I find it very telling that the Bay area has a plethora of poor blacks and a few wealthy blacks residing in predominately white areas, but NO black middle class communities.

Jack London square is certainly not a black middle class neighborhood. The area has a plethora of whites residing there.

I'll have to look into the overall demographics and income levels in Maxwell Park, because I'm not familiar with this area.

I just checked out the stats, half of Maxwell Park consists of non blacks. Although it's middle class, it's certainly not a middle class black community.

There are no established middle class black communities in the Bay area. Ok thanks for answering the question...

In terms of specifically middle class black NEIGHBORHOODS, not really, imo. But if you're looking for more widespread middle class towns/cities where a lot of middle class blacks live you can look to Fairfield and Vallejo. It's one of the most diverse areas in California if not the country.

I can't think of any predominantly middle-class black neighborhoods in the Bay. The middle class neighborhoods tend to be very integrated and not dominated by any race. This has at least been my observation after having lived in the East Bay for several years.

You don't find it strange that Oakland is predominately black, yet there are NO established black middle class communities in the area.

Again, thanks for answering my question.
Oakland is NOT predominantly black. Where are you getting your info? 27.4% of the population is a plurality, NOT a majority.

  • Black alone - 108,436 (27.4%)
  • White alone - 100,295 (25.3%)
  • Hispanic - 96,731 (24.4%)
  • Asian alone - 70,538 (17.8%)
  • Two or more races - 15,422 (3.9%)
  • Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander alone - 1,832 (0.5%)
  • Other race alone - 1,501 (0.4%)
  • American Indian alone - 1,056 (0.3%)

Let me rephrase that, parts of Oakland are black.

Although I can't say that middle class neighborhoods in the Bay Area are not diverse, I can state that most of those middle class "diverse" areas, do not usually include a substantial number of middle class blacks.

There are definitely blacks residing in the Bay area, but most of them are impoverished.

Metro area, Chicago and of course throughout the South, but do they exist in the Bay area?
No communities that I can think of in the the immediate S.F. Bay Area.
