Very impressive list. I've always wondered why we get threads talking about how poorly dressed SF women are, when there are all these high-fashion stores. And I noticed Rodier of Paris is no longer on the list. Too bad, but there's plenty there to take up the slack. Great topic, OP!

I'd hasten to add that the women in SF, however, generally dress WAY better than the men from what I've seen. I'd have thought that the jeans, hoodies, sneakers-or-boots look would have died a merciful death by now. And that folks would agree that business casual means something better than dressing like a college kid on spring break and coming to work on a skateboard.

There are indeed loads of places in SF where guys can get some very sharp, stylish, casual, well-fitting, clothes that are appropriate for an office and after-work hanging out. But judging from how I see men dressed, I don't have the foggiest idea how the good men's clothing stores stay in business.

Good point. All I know is that the women in the FiDi and elsewhere downtown dress sharp. They dress beautifully. They get guys' attention when crossing the street. So the guys who come here to complain have an axe to grind for personal reasons, I can only conclude. They have issues.

Graff Diamonds San Francisco Boutique at 237 Post St. in Union Square has closed. Interesting move as Harry Winston is opening a new flagship a few stores away and Tiffany & Co. underwent a recent massive remodel. Cartier is also on this block as well as Tourbillon.

This area of Post seems to be having a high turnover right now as many storefronts are leasing.

I'm starting to wonder if a lot of the clientele is from higher-end tourism. Where I live now, the small downtown is all expensive stores, very high-end jewelry stores & fashion. No one who lives here goes to downtown, except rarely. It's all for high-end seasonal visitors with vacation homes here (NYC - & Hollywood people, and the like) and similarly high-end tourists. There was a time when the Berkeley and Oakland hills (and Piedmont), and Orinda/Lafayette were full of residents who would shop SF's finer stores. Times have changed, I guess, and life has become more casual, even for that crowd. I Magnin has been replaced with Macy's, literally, in the same space. Those other stores, and the menswear stores you refer to, are kept alive probably by the FIDI crowd, and then, the wealthy tourists. That's my best shot, for explaining the continued existence of high-end shopping in SF.
