Golden Gate Bridge tolls to increase Monday | The Press Democrat

The District is facing a $142 million shortfall over the next five years, but I thought laying off all the toll takers was supposed to SAVE them $$$ ?

I am glad to see that the toll raises in the near future are only 25 cents, at least until 2018

Maybe the rising cost of fuel is largely responsible for the shortfall.

Looks as though the combination of the Bay Area's cost of living and California's taxes are beginning to suck commuters dry.

I would not be surprised to learn that actual fare collection on the ferries and buses has declined. After all, bridge tolls mainly subsidize those operations, the actual cost of running and maintaining the bridge is a mere fraction of the toll draw. As for why this may be the case in an up economy, I can only guess that there are fewer of the "old school" typical Marin commuters to the Financial District and more people in Marin working in Marin (or from home), or, commuting to the East Bay or other North Bay locales.

ANY increase a this point is just greedy and annoying. What is it now, like $7? The irritating thing is that we have to drive that way to see our aging parents, we're not some international tourists or wealthy Marin-ites, yet they keep raising it and raising it like only the uber-wealthy should need to pass that way. At this rate, we'll soon need to pay $100 just to take the kids to see grandma before she dies! So glad I don't have to live there anymore.

They should add a $5 toll per person to walk/bike across.

That wouldn't go over to well with the bicycle coalition, but it only seems fair to me.
Or how about $2 to walk, $5 to ride and $10 for those obnoxious cyclists who insist on riding across on the pedestrian side.

Not until after 2017 because I want to sell my place mid 2016.

Instead of raising rates they should turn it into a tourist attraction similar to the bridge in Sydney. It really wouldn't take much to add some safety railings. They already have some infastructure at the start of the bridge. They could charge $100+ a person and make millions per year taking the burden off locals.
