I'm not sure who exactly would be enticed to move to LA by the fact that rich foreigners are flocking to buy houses there.

That's how every thread in the the SF-Oakland forum ends up. No one really
tries to answer the question posed, instead they turn everything into a pissing
contest, then the mods come in and lock things up. I only saw two real responses
that actually address the questioned posed, and this thread is 6 pages long.

That's why this entire SF forum is shut down like Sing Sing prison. Some of the
people who use this forum can't act like adults. It's like a child's playground here.
I actually feel sorry for the guy who has to corral this mess. I hope City-Data
is paying him well.

mrsantamonica's data says SF has 33 sales of 5 millions or more; but I counted over 50 if you include suburbs outside of SF proper (not including the South Bay and beyond), so I have no idea where he/she is getting the data and what the data really mean

.
So why don't you present useful data to add to the conversation?

If you have better data, then I think anyone reading would love to
see it. A year by year, city by city comparison?

That is if you can stop with the ad hominem attacks and snark
remarks about propaganda campaigns.

or by the fact that only 5% of the total (91%) foreigners are actually buying luxury homes, and not the entire 91% figure mrsantamonica stated.

Washington: A world apart | The Washington Post

All this Washington Post article shows me is where the highest wage earners are. It does not calculate wealth per se.

And in many respects Southern California is like Hawaii. Hawaii too has wealth, but not really high wage earners like the areas mentioned in the Post article. This metric does not apply to places where people bring their wealth.

Furthermore, San Francisco is actually the 3rd most desirable location for foreign real estate investors in the world in 2014 behind London and New York according to the Association of Foreign Investors in Real Estate(AFIRE):

Foreign R.E. Investors Prepared to up U.S. Ante, Four U.S. Cities in... -- WASHINGTON, Jan. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --

And this makes sense.

WTF? Let me get this straight, instead of going back to the OP and demand better data, you put the onus on me to do the OP's job? Are you out of your mind? Let me break it down for you - I wasn't the OP, I wasn't the one trying to make the point in the subject line, I have no stake in this, I do not feel strongly about it and I honestly don't care.

Why don't YOU post the data and do a city by city comparison? I'll give my source, it's redfin.com. Make sure you pull ALL of SF Bay Area (sometime that the OP didn't do) and I expect it be done and posted sometime today before 5 pm pst.
