I've also been to Melbourne, and it has kind of a similar scene... busy - but not like NYC busy, great shopping, friendly people (in a city way), diversity, and so forth. I don't think it looks much like SF, but I can see other similarities between them.

Oh, and while I've never been, I'll add Toronto to the list. My father used to go there for work, and he always said it was like San Francisco with snow.

I had to google it, since I'd never heard of Dunedin (NZ)... it does resemble SF in it's topography:
