My son just moved to San Francisco and we'll be visiting him in September. I'm looking for a restaurant with a nice view of San Francisco at night that's not going to break the bank. Any suggestions?

Not a lot of options. You can try Paragon at the Claremont hotel. Not my favorite place. Better for drinks. The food is average.

The waterfront places at Jack London offer good views but not really direct SF views. I like lungomare or bocanova.

Pier 29 in Alameda has a nice view of the SF skyline.

Hong Kong East Ocean Seafood Restaurant has a spectacular view of SF and both bridges. It is situated out on a tiny peninsula on the bay in Emeryville. It is better to go on weekdays since the weekends are frequently booked with wedding banquets.

Trader Vic's, in Emeryville. Same location as that Hong Kong restaurant mentioned above. Not sure it meets your "won't break the bank" criterion, though. But it's worth it. Great place.

Skates on the Bay in Berkeley has great views of the Golden Gate and downtown SF. It is pricey but not outrageously so. Trader Vic's also, as previously mentioned...
