SF is #1, San Jose is #7 and Oakland is #11.

Bay Area is one of the least affordable rental markets in the nation - On The Block

It is getting ridiculous out there.

Unfortunately this is in fact true. I just recently moved to Vallejo, which isn't as bad as most people think it is. I like the area so far. I hesitated moving there, but felt I had limited options because of the lack of affordable places to rent.

Slightly off topic (sorry) but I was curious where that Oakland home was for $9999 a month with a waterfront view. I couldn't think of anywhere on Oakland that would have a view like that?

Here's the listing:

Apartment List - More than 2 Million Apartments for Rent

and address;
Rockingham Ct, Oakland 94619
Near Merritt College

There is no water around there. What am I missing here?

Hmmm, try to raise a kid in a rent-controlled studio apartment or move to a slightly larger place and watch my rent nearly quadruple... decisions, decisions.

It looks like there is a reservoir in the nearby park. I am guessing the view is that?

It;s been that way for a long a$$ time. 2001-me a Science Grad from a Pac 10 school to the North. Got a job offer from a top Biotech firm in SSF. Woohoo-great job, great company. Housing ate up around 40-50 percent of my take home pay-and I went to college, had roommates for long enough.. Three years later I left due to housing costs.. The worst thing was that I love the Bay Area, born in SF, raised in Berkeley. I could not pay to play...even with a skilled degree.

My sister is going through the same thing right now working at Groupon, loves her job, but was a mere business major, so not making huge amounts of dough. Just scraping by...no thought of even owning her own home-just happy to not have to share an apt with strangers.

That looks like a wording gaffe by the realtor as its not on the waterfront, but the views from Rockingham are breathtaking and stunning. Better than 'waterfront' in fact.

Anyhow rents are so out of this world nowadays. Oakland is off the hook.

That Oakland listing is a fake. The pictures are from Marin County somewhere.

I thought that was weird.

Here is the actual listing 4616 Rockingham Ct, Oakland, CA 94619 - Zillow
with those words same words.
Nice house but nowhere near any waterfront.
