They might feign wariness of turning it into L.A., but seems a petty concern.

Extremely petty.

We live in a mediterranean climate that support that sort of plant life.

They're totally moving hordes of Dodger fans in there. Bank on it. Planning the cannons and catapults aimed at China Basin as we speak. Palms = Trojan Horse.

I had a moment where I thought - 26 story buildings, blocking views? I'd be mad, too!

Then I remembered that JLS is off on it's own on the other side of the freeway....who's view would the buildings impede? People living under the freeway?

I love the idea of developing the waterfront areas. Love the one proposed for San Leandro, too. It's not like it's some pristine beach where scads of families take their children now, who will all be banned from their beloved beach lol!

They feel out of place an awkward juxtaposition. Or it could be a Palm tree farm.

This article can tell you all about it.

On the other hand, palms are the universal symbol of the tropics in the popular imagination. They are the emblem of hot weather, sea and vacation time in peoples’ minds. Outdoor and indoor spaces are immediately given an exotic ambience by the use of palms.

That's the Waterfront Hilton. Just stayed there earlier this year. They're going for an oasis sort of look to offset the otherwise industrial feel of the general area.

Personally, I like palm trees. There are a few around my apartment complex and it reminds me in live in CA every time I walk in/out of my building. The palm trees on the Bay Bridge approach look dumb though.

I don't mind them at JLS but I think they look stupid everywhere else in the city - like we're trying to be LA. Lots were put up alongside ugly apartment buildings in the 50s and 60s. All around horrible.
