God bless him and I hope the money works wonders. However, in 2010 Zuckerberg donated $10 0million to Newark, New Jersey public schools and by all accounts the money wasn't spent wisely. See Dale Russakoff: A Test for School Reform in Newark : The New Yorker

His wife Priscilla Chan is interesting. She was educated in public schools in Massachusetts. She seems to be the impetus behind this.

Dumping money into schools won't help resolve the biggest impediment to the development of intelligent, civilized children: stupid, stupid parents. You can have a kid in a classroom with a teacher : student ratio of 1:10 and it won't really matter if the kid's father took off for greener pastures and the mom has never cracked a good book and is obsessed with TMZ. Civilization begins and ends in the home. Sadly, it's usually the case that the people having children are the ones who really shouldn't be.
