I never said it was the coldest. But i dont find a balmy 50 degree day to be beach weather. Warmest places in the country in the winter would be more like miami, la, san diego, vegas, pheonix, etc. where the christmas average is 75 degrees.

Yeah I see what you mean, but 50F is still warmer than the vast majority of the country. SF is actually significantly warmer than Las Vegas in winter, and basically the same as Phoenix. Los Angeles is only about 5 degrees warmer in winter. Only southern Florida (Miami) is significantly warmer, as it's the one tropical part of the country.

I think San Francisco has great weather compared to some places, you don't get the huge highs and lows. I think many people stay there because of the weather and the beautiful setting with the many hills and the ocean. That's why I'd want to move back the weather, the great setting, the people are much more accepting and diverse. California overal is a much nicer state than most.

Don't let the facts get in the way of preconceived assumptions.

Los Angeles is by far warmer than San Francisco. Just look at a map, it's much farther south. Those 460 miles count for a LOT when it comes to weather.

Not quite.......anywhere in Florida is going to be warmer than LA, and certainly San Francisco. Right now it's 50 in SF, 54 in LA, and 76 in Orlando, FL.

It would depend on what one means by "by far" and "a LOT". Looking at a 30 year history of the winter weather in the two locations you get the below temperatures. San Francisco is cooler but not enough to change your winter wardrobe if you ask me.

City - Month - Ave High - Ave - Ave Low - Heating Deg Days - Cooling Deg Days
SF - Jan - 57.4 - 50.2 - 43.0 - 455 - 0
LA - Jan - 65.7 - 56.7 - 47.7 - 257 - 0

SF - Feb - 59.7 - 52.7 - 45.5 - 344 - 0
LA - Feb - 65.8 - 57.6 - 49.3 - 214 - 7

SF - Mar - 60.1 - 53.1 - 46.0 - 365 - 0
LA - Mar - 65.5 - 57.9 - 50.4 - 223 - 5

Not enough to change what you grow based on the cold either.

USDA Hardiness Zone
SF - 10
LA - 10
