I've been away a bit more than 18 months, a friend of a friend says the city has "gone down hill"

Any truth to this?

I know the rent prices went up by crazy amounts

It depends. If you work in tech, the city has become a lot more attractive. If you're poor/working class, you've probably been priced out by the techies and relegated to living across the Bay in Oakland

I don't think the rents or wealthy tech types have that much of an impact over just 18 months...but think that crime has gotten A LOT worse in that amount of time. Seems like there's more random and more violent types of crime now.

You are actually wrong. Crime is down around the Bay Area in general and rents have gone way up pretty much everywhere. LOL

110% know the rents are higher than when I left!

The crime of course I don't know as easily, but a quick CL scan tells me about the rents

I don't know about you, but when the roller coaster goes downhill is when I holler "Wheeeee!"

Okay-- guess I was wrong then. I generally read the Examiner for more accurate crime information and some of the things I've been reading are pretty bad--

Random fatal beatings, muggings, and stabbings...not typical gang/drug related type stuff.

Rents...well from my perspective they've pretty much always been very high. Not this high of course, but people are paying them---and seemingly able to.

So yes--I suppose in 18 months rents have probably increased. Not really sure, OP what kind of information you're looking for. You're friend said it was "going down hill". Why not ask him?

Went in San Francisco during 3 months, after getting there 3 years ago, and I saw the same things.
