In my several years of posting here, it seems that 'hate' threads on city-data are the one ones that last the longest, and have the most posts. Sad, really.

I'm didn't mean to hate...I came to understand. We stayed at the Hyatt Embarcadero...took the BART from SFO to the hotel. After stepping over human feces and multiple piles of vomit I needed more information as to why. It seems the worst is right where we stayed...one of the locals said because this is a business area and nobody lives down here...so the neighborhoods have pushed the homeless to this area.

As far as the filth...nobody wants to waste the water to clean. Anyway...I guess I know fog city's dirty little secret.

NYC is filthier than SF. Newark is filthy, Philly is a mess. San Francisco isn't as spotless as it used to be, my first time there was 1989, and it seemed so clean, but times change. I wouldn't say SF is the filthiest, the other cities I mentioned are worse.

It's because there is no rain to wash away the filth.
I live in downtown, there's trash all over the street when I go to work in the morning.

Why don't they clean up San Francisco?
LMFAO! I take it you weren't in SF in the 60s-70s? It's like Legoland now, by comparison.

Rather, I intend to spend most of my time wandering around Crissy Field, the Presidio, Baker Beach, Sutro Heights Park, Glen Canyon, Golden Gate Heights, Golden Gate Park, Tank Hill, Kite Hill, and other parts in the central and western parts of the city. I find it hard to believe that all of these places are "filthy". Please say it's not so!
Stick to the southwestern portions of the City: West Portal, Glen Park, Lake Merced, Westwood Highlands/Mt.Davidson, Diamond Heights -- all these areas are nice, clean, and less congested than the inner core of the city. Hang out around Ft. Mason, Sutro baths, and Ocean Beach areas.

It's the 2nd densest city in the US and we get very little rain, so what do you expect? There are clean areas, but the areas with the heaviest foot traffic are gonna reflect that.
