I work for a private company in hi tech. I was having a look at my W2 and on the 13th box it under retairment plan it has nothing. Does it mean I am not getting any single dollars into my retirement plan?

I feel like speaking to a tax professional or an accountant will be far more useful than posting on a messageboard about cities and regions.

There are several other forums that would be better for this, such as employment or economics. A good percentage of jobs especially in the smaller companies and lower pay scale do not offer any company retirement plan, so that box will be empty.

look at one of your pay stubs.... do you see any deductions? companies don't magically take money out of your paycheck for retirement, you have to tell them what to do.

Why would you not just go directly to HR at your employer to figure this out?

Of course, you can always put money into a savings account, mutual fund, 401k etc without your employer doing anything.
