$420 monthly PGE bill for last several months....What I did:
1) dumped 20 year old washer and dryer (electric) for Whirlpool Duet 8300 washer and gas dryer. $1000
2) dumped 20 year old refrigerator for Energy Efficient Kitchenaid side by side. $1000
3) changed out canned lighting to CFL's. Did Same with other lighting. $380.00
4) disconnected small refrigerator in Garage.
5) disconnected water cooler, especially since new frig has filtered water and ice.
6) disconnected small appliances, computers, printers when not in use and overnight.

One month later, PGE bill just came in on the 15th of May...Gas $22.00, Electricity 107.00= $129.00
70% savings. Appliance cost $2380 Divided by $291. monthly savings...Figure Ill recoup my money back in the first 8 months. $3492. annual savings thereafter....Just one guy's tale...

My PGE bill is $25 per month. I live in a one bedroom apartment (900 sq feet) with all electrical except for the stove.
