Domino's Pizza driver kidnapped, sexually assaulted in California

A female delivery driver for Domino's Pizza was kidnapped at gunpoint in Northern California and sexually assaulted by a teenager, apparently after he ordered the pizza, police said on Tuesday. The 17-year-old boy approached the woman on Sunday with a handgun when she exited her car with the pizza in a residential area of Antioch, about 40 miles northeast of San Francisco, Antioch police said in a statement.

Yeah Antioch has crime, but c'mon....This is a single incident, and you could find articles about kidnappings and sexual assaults (minus the "Domino's Pizza employee" part, which is probably the only reason this made national news) in any other city.

That said, Antioch is a little bit rougher than it used to be. That part of the Bay Area is relatively cheap, and a lot of the poorest people who got priced out of SF and Oakland have ended up over there...including some of those cities' criminal element.

Antioch is easily one of the worst cities in the Bay Area imo. There really anything good that ever gets mentioned about that city.

There's one source of employment that will be closed to women, at least in that community.

Antioch has gotten pretty bad in the last 5 years. A lot of the homes that went into foreclosure after the bust were sold to investors who turned them into section 8 housing.

yep, you are right..same thing in Fairfield. in some areas about 60 -70% of homes went into foreclosure and almost all of them were all bought by investors and ended up being managed by the same Management company which preferred section 8 tenants because HUD would pay over market rate.

Yep, used to be a nice middle class town, (Grew up there, moved out in 03 or 04). It was slowly getting bad towards the end of my tenure, and has gotten much worse. My uncle still lives there, a neighbor down the street was held at gun point during a day time home invasion a couple of months ago. Now my uncle wants to move.

Most of the middle class folks moved east to Brentwood/Oakley.

My aunt and uncle used to live in a big brand new house in Antioch a few years back. The neighborhood looked great on the outside at first. It became apparent not long after they moved in though that the town tends to attract a lower class group of people due to lower housing costs. The crime really is high for a suburban bedroom community.

Here's just one example and why it's a good thing that my aunt and uncle moved out and their son won't have to attend schools there:

Those newer areas of Antioch can be really deceiving. I've had to go to the Kaiser complex out there a few times and the area around Deer Valley High looks relatively nice. Deer Valley High looks nice and new as well but I know that it's actually not and there has been huge issues with the stuff that goes on at and around that school. I remember when that HS opened, it's amazing how fast it managed to go downhill.
