Well, that is wrong, but you don't rectify the problem by giving a woman or minority of lower credentials a leg up over a non-minority with superior credentials. I hear people say that it can only be used as a tie breaker, but tell me when are two people exactly the same in caliber? That is a rarity. Two wrongs do not make a right.

No! It's called my father was a real man who knew his responsibilities. He wasn't a child trapped in man's body who wanted to evade his responsibility so he could be a "player".

And, who put you in charge of deciding what "privilege" is? You think that because you're a liberal you have some self-ordained power to decide for the rest of us what "privilege" is?
Why don't you ask someone who didn't have two parents at home due to divorce, death or other circumstance. And see if they find it "luxurious" to have 2 parents at home.

I see your post is chock full of stereotyping.

SF metro actually has a slightly higher percentage of blacks than Greater Boston (8.4% versus 7.3%).

This doesn't address the fact that the OP didn't seem to be aware that there were locations in the East Bay with a radically different demographic. And that's relevant to her interest in making friends and networking with peers in her ethnic group.

Ok so you're a right wing Gay Filipino/Latino. One of the most racist people I've ever met was a Filipino male. It's a shame because if it weren't for what Blacks had to go through you would be riding in the back of the bus. It's even more pathetic when another minority can't recognize the long lasting affect of slavery, jim crow and legal segregation.

I love how I didn't even need to comment anymore, and the thread proved to be exactly what I predicted.

Racist Asian? kttam186290. Check. (I am surprised I checked the gay, Conservative and Latino checkbox as well)

People have already admitted I am correct in most everything I have said.
@O4kland (or whatever cipher this is): I do not have to live in the Bay Area to know what goes on. Most of my friends/colleagues are from there.

I basically posted this question to prove a point.

You're right. I came into the thread knowing the Bay Area is the epitome of hypocrisy. At least in Conservative areas there still is a relatively decent population of minorities.

To be frank, I don't know why anyone, more specifically minorities (who aren't Asian) would willingly choose to live in the Bay Area over Portland or Seattle. San Francisco is nice but Willie Mays isn't mayor anymore. It's also never warm enough to go without a few layers. No place is perfect. Southern California is extremely beautiful but the people leave much to be desired, New York is the other way around.

Sounds like you really won't be happy anywhere. And not sure why you see Seattle as some melting pot. It's far from it. I think the Bay Area is much more inclusive and diverse.

The weather in the Bay Area is far nicer than in Portland and Seattle. And there are even fewer people of color and more segregation there. Instead being black is a novelty. And either you are an alien or walking stereotype. No thanks.
