Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has an idea of the commute time for:

Morning:
Peninsula to Richmond

Evening:
Richmond to Peninsula

I'm thinking of moving to peninsula (Redwood City, San Mateo, ...).

Thanks.

Default Commute

It depends on exactly what town you're in, but it'll be a fairly nasty commute from anywhere on the Peninsula. You're looking at a drive-time of at LEAST 40 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the route and day.

First you'll have to fight bridge traffic - either on the San Mateo, Bay, or Dumbarton - and highway 101 if you're living in between the bridges. Bay Bridge can be an absolute nightmare during rush hour, and backs up for miles. Then you get to fight "the maze", which is notorious for being the worst traffic here... it includes highways 580 & 80, and is the only logical way into Richmond. Personally, I'd take San Mateo or Dumbarton bridge and 880-580, but that route can also get pretty bad. Actually the best choice is public transportation, but unfortunately BART doesn't run south of Millbrae.

Anyway, in my opinion your best bet is San Mateo/Foster City, or Millbrae and north (up to Daly City)... the first is convenient to S.M. Bridge, and the north Peninsula towns are close to BART & closer to the Bay Bridge. Must vent for a moment - I freakin' hate the traffic here!! Today I sat on the 101 in San Francisco for 45 minutes, and only progressed about 3 miles during that time. And this was at 2pm... Good luck in whatever you choose!
