Here are some actual stats.
According to various sources, California has among the worst roads in the country. For instance, see

this source . This despite the
4th highest gas tax and
very high vehicle registration fees.
Meanwhile, California has
academically awful and
unsafe schools , in spite of collecting
significantly more property taxes in terms of total dollars than most other regions.
But hey, California is building a sooper kool maglev train and
we give our public sector overlords huge pensions . Worth it!
Fwiw, I am not criticizing California for being liberal. I am criticizing California for being inefficient and dumb. Plenty of liberal states in the Northeast have great schools, roads, and public services in exchange for their taxes. But lol, sorry, California does not. California is the Alabama of the west coast, at least as far as schooling is concerned.
