Shame the owner was too lazy/stupid to put a fresh coat of paint on before they put it up for sale. Then again a fresh coat of paint in Oakland means you can raise the sale price by 20 million dollars, so....

That whole area is going to go up in value by at least 20% once Brooklyn Basin is done. It will suddenly be "just up the hill" from a beautiful waterfront...

Brooklyn Basin sounds so dumb. Why do they call it that?

God RE developers come up with the cheesiest names sometimes.

The Eastlake/Clinton area was originally a separate town named "Brooklyn" before Oakland annexed it. It's just a weird coincidence that it's also the name of the center of 1990's to 2000's era New York hipsterdom.

It's a pretty house, but who cares if a cloud computing business person bought it?

I believe it is a big deal b/c that is a poor hood but it is changing. A tech executive wouldn't have ever considered buying in such a place before - think about it. Oh, the previous owner is hated by the local activists.

BTW, (to another poster) that house was re-painted and Brooklyn Basin is the name of that basin. Nothing to do with realtors. That area was briefly the town of Brooklyn back in the 1850's or so. Once those 3,200 units go in, that area will boom. I think Fruitvale is already "falling." There is an uptick in Spanish speakers seeking help at the rent adjustment program from what I hear. Normally I wouldn't believe hearsay but it makes sense. If you have the money, buy over there!!! < ---- No, I'm not a realtor.

I'm there every weekend ... looks to me like that area is steadily being gentrified.

Because ultra-liberals are hypocrites. They will be up in arms if someone were to say "another damn homosexual bought a $2 million home in my neighborhood" yet they have no problem saying, "another damn techie bought a $2 million home in my neighborhood." The most clear thing I learned from living in San Francisco was that ultra-liberals are just as close-minded and intolerant as ultra-conservatives, if not more so because they constantly claim how open minded they are.

The house IS beautiful on the inside and definitely has a cool historic vibe. However, if I had nearly $2 million to drop on a house, there'd be no chance in Hell I'd buy a place in East Oakland below I-580! Absurd! I wonder how long it takes for the new owner to get the house burglarized or a car broken into outside or to wake up in the morning to find fresh graffiti.
