Top tier companies like fb, netflix, google will give you more + big stock options + nice signon bonus.
That's not true. Just live at home and someone making 40k can live nearly the same lifestyle as someone making 100.

LA is already expensive (But still far cheaper than the Bay Area so no promises).

This is how it might go down. Profit margins will get squeezed, 5-20% layoffs, support functions moved to lower cost of living area.

This will be similar to the big banks moving their HR and accounting departments from NYC to Jersey.

@Perma Bear
live at home ? most people here are immigrants or they have come from some other states. they don't have home.
Secondly, this thread is about COL which jacks up when you consider buying. otherwise leaving rent/mortgage i think other expenses in bay area are more or less are same as other states.

What are you talking about? What part of ultra suburban Silicon Valley resembles Western Europe? You mean San Francisco proper? What cities in Silicon Valley?

Public transit in even 3rd tier western European cities blow away transit everywhere in the USA. And silicon valley transit is *not* good at all, with minimal hope for improvements on the horizon.

So given European planning which means jobs can be reached well on transit, and lots of rail and bus options, I have no idea what this poster is talking about.

I dearly wish SV and the SF Bay Area had European-levels of transit. It would make living in more affordable far flung areas possible. But the reality is not even close. Not even NYC area transit is up to European standards.
