I moved to the east coast transferred grad school to be with my daughter and now wife I absolutely hate it here more than life so I am re transferring back to my old school and bringing them with me. In the two years I have left the rent prices have gone up like 20 % ! Alameda was an option as 2 bedroom etc as I like a bit culture around me but truthfully I don't have time outside of family and studying so I was considering DUBLIN, maybe even parts of tracy. How bad is the commute to hayward ? what other areas would you recommend? I do need a garage I have a sports car I can't park outside in hayward oakland etc ! I see the value in tracy is a bit better than dublin but just want something my small town wife can feel comfortable in low crime new shops etc ......
thanks for the advice!

Secure parking is always a plus... auto thefts happen as does too many incidences of cars parked on the street being hit...

Tracy is the worst commute for many... bad of the bad in commute time.

Dublin could get to Hayward on the frontage road or Crow Canyon road...

Alameda to Hayward is cross town driving and freeway... not any direct route.

What about Castro Valley or Hayward near campus?

Doubt she will feel comfortable anywhere... she will need to adjust.

We lost a number of co-workers that bought in Tracy and areas there... they LOVE their homes... simply could not do the commute any longer...

Just live in Dublin. It takes about 30ish minutes to get to Hayward and you can take surface streets as an alternative to the freeway. Tracy is too far. Dublin is typical safe suburbia.

Tracy to Hayward would be BRUTAL, even with the new commuter lanes.

We have lived in the Hayward Hills up near Cal State for the past 15 years. Very quiet and still relatively affordable.. Easy access to 580 and 880 too.

Horrible. Torture. You will be in the traffic direction the whole way.

If you have a car too fancy to put on the street, but are sweating over rental prices, i think you need a financial advisor rather than rental advice and rethink your priorities. "Sorry, hon, that you got mugged...but hey we can afford a house here that has a garage for my beloved car!" Think about it...

Yes, awful. Also, note that hayward has nice areas. Why not just live there and skip the inevitably nightmarish commutes?
