There's a 24 hour bus that runs up and down Mission between Daly City and SF, and the Samtrans 391 runs after midnight.

LOL... guess your city upbringing spoiled ya. I had a car while living in Pacifica (still do), so I guess things didn't seem as distant - and I never had to worry about the bus, thankfully.

You guys are so nice for taking the time to give people good advice. I am moving to the bay area in late August/Sept and I have no clue where to move. Everything with a SF zip code seems to be so expensive to rent. I wouldn't move all the way to Pacifica and I cant deal with Oakland so what are my safe and somewhat cool options? Thanks ahead of time!

If San Francisco is too expensive and Oakland and Pacifica are too far you're left with Daly City, Brisbane, and South San Francisco. I would pick Daly City (and did), it's safe though it's cool in weather not in style.

I was all about Daly City until some people i know basically trashed it. They say it's not safe or fun to live there. But who are they? It looks so close to SF that it wouldnt matter if it was a "cool" are right? How bout areas in SF that are on the more affordable side.

Well, I wouldn't say it was "fun" either but it's 10 minutes to downtown and you can extrapolate from that how close other interesting parts of San Francisco are. There's the usual stuff though. A pretty decent movie theater. An average bowling alley. Some dive bars. A very small selection of restaurants. A lot of people come to Daly City to shop because the parking is easier. Daly City isn't what I would call a destination city but you could do worse.

I have no idea what they're talking about when they say it isn't safe. There isn't a part of Daly City I would hesitate to walk through alone at night.

The cheapest parts of San Francisco on the other hand would give me pause.

I would not want to be walking alone in the area around the Cow Palace or on Mission north of John Daly. I once walked, at night, on Mission from Evergreen all the way to 24th Street - the beginning, before going into SF, was the most unnerving to me. Maybe it was all the hole-in-the-wall auto repair places that looked like chop shops.

San Francisco is doable. I'm living in a 1-bedroom for $1,100 in the Outer Richmond District. There's a 38-bus line that takes you to downtown in about 45 minutes. If you were to do this in Daly City, you'd be in San Francisco about 2 hours.

I think you're talking about Sunnydale? Yeah, it's not a smart idea to walk around their. Most people take buses outta Sunnydayle, back to Sunnydayle, and outta Sunnydale. It's not nessescary to be walking around their.
