Hi

Anybody found a crime map that is accurate and doesn't' repeat the same crime as reported four times?

I would also like to weed out misdemeanors. pun!

Some sites seem to promote a lot of drama. Kinda funny.

Wondering where "they" pull the information from and how accurate it truly is.

Thanks

They get their data from incidents reported by the local police / sheriff's department. They are usually accurate but you can't just look at a bunch of incidents on a map and draw accurate conclusions without drilling down into the data. If you look at a crime map of an area with a large shopping mall you will see an inordinate number of thefts, both shoplifting and thefts from vehicles, but that doesn't mean that nearby residential areas are unsafe. Likewise, some police departments report 'stop and talk' stops and you will get large numbers of those on crime maps near large public parks, again that usually means the police are being proactive and approaching people in parks who look like they are up to no good.

In looking for a place to live you want to look for the occurrence of residential burglaries, robberies and incidents involving firearms, i.e. drive by shootings. If you see those incidents you should probably contact the local police department and ask them for more information on the area.
