Dear David Aguilar,

Can we please have a sticky put up like the San Diego forum with a one thread fits all for rentals and real estate prices? Their caption is exactly like the one in the subject line but with the words San Diego instead of San Francisco. The redundancy of the threads on this forum takes up considerable space and serves no purpose. It would be just as easy to have a single thread and then those that would rather talk about other topics would not need to be bombarded unnecessarily with these multiple posts. Thank you!

There's no need for that, man. This is a local forum. One of the main topics for a local forum is Cost of Living. Another is people coming in and asking where they should move, given their budget. So basically you're saying 90% of the purpose of the forum is wasted bandwidth lol.

We used to say that on Usenet and the BBSs a lot, back in the days of dialup. People would quote an entire post, only to write a two sentence reply. People would say "come on dude you're wasting bandwidth" because it would take 30 minutes to download all the posts from the last time you were online. Of course now with broadband, you can navigate a forum like this in seconds, but it still grinds me when I see people quoting an entire post just to write one line of response to it. lol...

This forum would be pretty dead if you banned new cost of living threads.

I don't think a well-thought out sticky would necessarily discourage posts. I think it can be a good idea - maybe a quick tutorial on how to search posts well. Most people don't know how to search well.

Maybe you can have one with other tips, e.g. tell us your rental budget before saying you want advice on a town in xyz county, etc. Or "try maps.google.com street view or directions feature" etc

Hey guys I make 150K/year and want to live somewhere nice. Can I afford living in Frisco and where should I live? I haven't done any research and you'll have to guess where my job is.

I bought my condo for $250k in 2011... You just need to be responsible with your money, save/invest and there will always be buying opportunities. That is why booms and busts are healthy for the economy. If we only experienced booms, then the have nots would never have a chance.
