Big question: When it comes time for the interview, is it SKYPEed, do you fly in and interview? How does the process work.

Seems like we are in the same boat in terms of navigating moving to SF.

Better have a net worth of 50k+ in order to get even a temporary foothold (enough to pay for a few months of expenses).

More like 5k unless you're talking about staying in a hotel. You can get a roof over your head for 500/month, so 5k should cover you for a while.

Where did she say that?

And if you make the median income in the area, 100k, you probably have 50k saved up.

Anyway at 100k you only need roommates if you're trying to save money. People can rent apartments by themselves at the median income. I can't because I make below the median income. You can still live here if you make less than the median, but you'll be sharing.

You're pretty optimistic thinking a lot of people have more than that saved up

Why? If you make 100k and save ten percent a year, after five years you would have about 50k saved.

By the time 5 years passes you will need 80k+ thanks to skyrocketing COL and bay area inflation. Besides 50k after 5 years is pretty pathetic.

lol what are you talking about, man? A lot of people just barely got out of college at 25 years old.

So many people on this web site have this twisted view of the universe where if you don't own a home you're living in poverty.

Well, if that's what you think, then I guess most of you would have to leave, and move someplace where a SFH is cheaper. Of course, your income will be proportionately lower if you move there.

Explain to me how that isn't poverty? You're no better than a homeless guy since neither of you can buy a home.
Also no, it's not proportionally lower. You might lose 20% of pay in some jobs but houses cost 5x less.
