I can accept that as a ramification for ones' public expressions, but do realize that this is essentially the same as the Hollywood blacklist. Certain writers and directors were Communists, said communistic things, and infiltrated Communist ideas into their films, and Hollywood employers decided not to employ them anymore. Apparently, when done during the 1950s it was a bad thing, but doing a blacklist today is not bad.

So this whole ordeal begs the question: Which group is really the violently intolerant one here?

Sometimes the court of public opinion is even more powerful than the court of law. Is that fair? Probably not, but that's life for you.

Based on the responses in this thread, it seems that many favor completely unfettered free-speech, even if it promotes hatred or can lead to violence (like what just happened), but they should really brush up on their US History or study some Supreme Court cases. They'll quickly learn that the 1st amendment has some pretty notable limits that have been around for a while.

So if I go up to a couple and call the lady fat over and over again in front of the husband/boyfriend, is that free speech?

Think back to Kindergarden...

Sticks and Stone break bones... words will never hurt me.

We have gone from Freedom of Speech to zero tolerance of being offended.

Simply tune it out... if nothing would have happened how many of us would be discussing or even have known about the permitted protest?

Unless I missed something... no arrests have been made with over a hundred law enforcement on site?

It seems that those who describe themselves as fascist behave in the most fascist manner such as using violence and pressing for laws to suppress freedom of speech. NeoNazis are a joke a very miniscule group of marginalized loners. They pose no threat to society but provide a Boogeyman for the leftist and Neoliberal plutocracy.

Those Supreme Court cases allow these types of groups to have permitted rallies.

The first amendment is here to protect unpopular opinions.

I think we need to address the issue whether a hate speech is a free speech. I think not.

Government oppression is a free speech.
Is love speech free speech?

I'm just playing devil's advocate here. I in no way advocate burning anyone but why love speech but not hate speech?

Words matter. Hostile work environment, defamation, emotional distress, words matter.
