Anybody ever do this? I know about the horror stories driving 580 westbound in the am, but I would be wanting to get to San Mateo around 4pm. Google Maps says 90 mins. I can live with that. Suppose I could do a dry run. Thinking about making a move for more affordable housing. The Peninsula is not a good place for a single, working class person who doesn't make $100k/yr

Why do you need to stay in ca? Family? Court order? You could find housing in much cheaper and nicer locales throughout the usa? Suffering to live the "ca dream" in manteca seems pointless...

Why not live in Manteca and have a higher quality of life minus the brutal 100+ degree days?

I came to SF for work...believe me when I tell you if I could find work in my field elsewhere I would take it...having to make $75k to afford a 1bdrm apt anywhere close to SF is beyond ridiculous

I misread your post, I thought you wanted to live in SF because you wanted to live the "urban hip" lifestyle. This does happen more frequently than it should.

I'm too old to be "urban hip" my office is in San Mateo...I'd be happy if I could find something I could afford on the Peninsula but without a roommate situation that aint happening

Plenty of room mates but you'll still be paying too much. You can perhaps try an encampment? Buy a Rottweiler and that'll keep away other homeless.
