I am from Charlotte, NC and recently visited family in Marin. Drove all around San Rafael, Larkspur, Mill Valley, Novato over 5 days and only saw law enforcement two times.

I live in a nice part of Charlotte, and see police everywhere eveyday...so it was amazing to notice its absence in Marin. Do they not have crime? Any experience from Mariners?

They don't have enough crime to warrant cops driving around patrolling as they would in other areas. Basically the only crime you see in a wealthy area is crime that you can't prevent with a police presence like domestic violence calls. They do have some property crime but most of the residents have sophisticated security systems, so it's not really a big deal

Thanks for the direct brevity! Makes sense once you think about it: uniformly weatlhy, upper class demographics surrounded by water on three sides with only the GG and Richmond bridge giving access to the proles. My brother did remind me he had an expensive road bike stolen from his roof rack at a coffee place years ago. Tracked it to a pawn shop across bay within hours, recovered...Had a great visit, loved it anyway.

No crime if there are no criminals even if there are no cops

"Uniformly wealthy" is a stereotype, and not true. Sure, there is a lot of wealth in Marin County, but most of the people I know are not wealthy and don't live in luxury. And there are areas that are actually low income. Lots of folks have lived here for years, bought their houses for much lower prices years ago and pay prop-13 prices for property tax. I won't argue that it is cheap to live in Marin - it isn't. But you give the impression that everyone here is wealthy - a superficial generalization that is far from accurate. There are areas of Marin that are more uniformly wealthy, and if you observed those areas only, you would come away with that impression.

I'd guess there are white collar criminals.
An FBI salary wouldn't cut it either.

Therefore:

Criminals > Cops

Cops in California make more than FBI agents
