This is amplified by the interconnected nature of B2B and saas tech companies: many saas companies' customers are other unprofitable tech companies. Next wave will be a few high profile unicorns collapsing and maybe another 10% of non-critical (but well-compensated) workforce being shed at places other than highly-profitable big tech companies (Google, Apple, etc.).

Job uncertainty propagates upward into tech industry, masked by headlines of high quarterly earnings for big tech. First-time tech homebuyer market dries up, which shows up first in plateauing rents.

2017-2018 will see post-2014 appreciation erased, in the same manner post-2014 tech companies are erased. Macro conditions in China will likely influence this as well, for better or worse.
That's probably a reasonable scenario.

can someone help me understand why SF is seeing price drops and you can get 3/1 in 9/10/10 perfect schools $800,000-$1,000,000

in oakland where schools can be 2/4/3 (horrible) in some areas a home is listed for $799k but gets bid up to over $1,000,000

I thought SF is where most of the jobs are at ??? i'm confused why is oakland having bidding wars ??? I thoguth people were trying to leave SF for cheaper homes

Can you state which areas and schools have 9/10/10 perfect schools? Then forum members can comment.

You might be looking at a crappy area of SF that has good schools vs a hip area of Oakland that doesn't. Good schools are just one factor for home prices and there are many DINKs in the Bay.

Basically anything that's not in between 580 & 880 seems to go $200k + over asking, you can check Redfin, and posters here have have examples.berkeley & Albany of course also.

I was just confused because I thought most of the jobs were in SF but people we're coming across to get better prices, I don't know much about SF but I looked at Trulia crime map and I see the schools on Redfin etc.

My explanation:
I understood that San Francisco has a lottery so where you live does not determine where your child goes to school

The B Transbay bus from trestle glen /Crocker highlands wil get you 2 blocks from google's San Francisco hq in 22 minutes(the bus is a nice coach clean, have free wifi, the only people on it are your neighbors )
Houses in that area have gone $400,000 to $700,000 over asking but they may be listed low.

Bart wil get you from rockridge to the financial district in around 20 minutes. (bidding wars and high prices)

Compare that with taking the 38 bus from lake street to fidi about an hour or more (it can be a nightmare sometimes the bus won't stop or it's late etc)
Lake street is a great area
