NYC is the only thing I really think that comes close, but it's also expensive and has much, much worse weather.

You wanna switch? Though the market rate of my studio apt (350 sq ft) is about $1350 right now.

I'm a black gamer (girl) too with a white boyfriend and I'm hoping to move back to the South after almost 8 years in Oakland.

I think it's just that honestly Oakland is super expensive for newcomers unless you're making some good six figures. But it also depends on your lifestyle. Apparently plenty of people love it because they keep coming here.

That's a pretty cheap price for right now. Where is your apt?

In the Atlanta area one can own a house with a mortgage payment under $1350/month and earthquake insurance is not needed.

North Oakland, Longfellow. It's a really small apartment and i'm just guessing on the market rate rent. Owner rented one unit out last year for $1250. I have rent control so my rent is less than half of that.

Ok well guys would you say LA is a better alternative. I jus want to experience the California lifestyle, and I feel like I'm meant to live on the west coast, just a feeling:

If it were me (and I'm also a black man but I'm in my 30s) and I were looking for a culturally diverse area for dating, some gaming, and a place where there are generally open minded people that isn't crazy expensive (yet).....I'd look to Seattle. It's still more pricey than Atlanta but I don't think it's hit Bay Area prices yet. Weather isn't superb during the fall/winter but Summer is gorgeous and there are a lot of beautiful women there who are nice and interesting.

If you want a little more funky, cheap but maybe not AS culturally diverse......Portlandia.

But from what I hear, Seattle is kinda close minded and racist to blacks out there.

If you want CA lifestyle, Seattle is not it. Your best bet in the Bay Area on that budget is roommates. It's a bad time move here to rent.

TBH, I find LA more culturally diverse than the Bay Area.

I have heard the same. When I visited it didn't feel very diverse. And it is segregated.
