I think Bay Area expensive because there are so many job opportunities for the IT technicians. Generally, low-med class moving another city.

If you interesting about SF you should read that article:

Our salaries aren't enough to make up for the higher COL as it is, and you want us to take pay cuts? Just lol.

Everything is context. As always, newspaper use headline to sell papers (or online views). Wow, "rent continue to slide." Then details states rent dropped by 2.5% ($66) year over year in San Jose. I guess $60 is nice, but is $60 is not much and not a slide.

My apartment building had at least one vacancy for over a month, so I'll say yes.

One of my neighbors is renting out her home, and potential renters have been negotiating rents with her. A year ago, this would have not happened, she would have gotten full asking price, at least.

To summarize, below that budget: mostly in-laws, roommate situations, and maybe a small 1BR (likely bad area of town) or studio.

I've definitely noticed rents dropping. House prices are actually dropping a little too or staying flat

Their was a big push for rent control in many locals so landlords artificially increased rents just in case, then the rent control didn't pass and units were over priced for market.

A lot of people were evicted because they couldn't afford the higher rates that landlords set because they were afraid of getting locked into bellow market rate they were previously charging.
