My daughter and I are continuing our baseball stadium tour this year and are looking at a weekend series of the Washington Nationals Vs Oakland Athletics in early June. We were wondering if anyone had any hotel suggestions close to the stadium.

Thanks,

Craig

The stadium is in a crappy part of town. I'd stay at the City Center Marriot and take BART to the Coliseum. You could walk to some great restaurants and take the train to the stadium - 15 minute ride. And it is more pleasant. Also it easily takes 20 minutes to get out of the stadium parking lot so the train is faster.

Or stay at Jack Lomdon Square.

^Agreed. There are a lot of hotels near the Coliseum because it's by the airport but none are particularly nice or upscale. Best you can do is The Courtyard by Marriott or Holiday/Comfort Inn's which are average. The area sucks and is kind of depressing though.

You could also just stay in or near Downtown SF and take BART. Way better area for tourists.

Agree with above. Downtown or City Center for the Marriott and Marriott Courtyard or Washington Inn in Old Town are good places.

Depending on how much you want to spend, the Waterfront Hotel in Jack London Square is nice, too. It's right at the ferry dock to go into San Francisco if you will be there for long enough to do that--there's a great farmers' market at the Ferry Building in SF on Saturday mornings and a nice one in Jack London Square right outside the hotel on Sunday mornings. If the timing happens to work out for the games, there's an Amtrak train that takes you directly from Jack London Square to the Coliseum in about 10 minutes (although unfortunately the timing often doesn't work out--but it's easy to take BART or a cab instead, too).

I used to stay at the Marina Village Inn on Alameda. Right on the water!

Others have already (correctly) pointed out the shortcomings of the neighborhood. If this doesn't dissuade you - maybe proximity matters more - the best nearby hotel is the Oakland Airport Hilton. It is something of an oasis in the area. It is also pretty cheap on weekends; I usually pay around $90 on a AAA rate.

Agree with the Airport Hilton. I would look at something near a bart station in another town. Dublin/Pleasanton, Walnut Creek, Concord all would provide you hotels near bart stations. Also downtown Oakland and San Francisco have many hotels near bart. The hotels in the vicinity of the Coliseum are pretty sketchy.
