Newbie here and I hope this is the right section.

I am working on a 2 year contract which is likely not going to be renewed.

Can I collect unemployment while I seek employment?

Any help would appreciated.

Admins: If posted in the wrong area please move as you see fit.

Thanks all

are you being paid as an independent contractor, or as a wage employee?

The corporate headquarters is in AZ. I live in SF Bay Area. I am an employee of the company on an expat assignment. It was documented as a 2 year plan. When done there is no position at headquarters for me so it will be project completed and I move on.

I have never applied for or used unemployment in my 30+ year career. But at this juncture I will return with no employment so I would like to apply if I can while I search for employment.

Adding to nightlysparrow's excellent suggestion, here is the link to the unemployment forum:

http://www.city-data.com/forum/unemployment/

You will probably get more answers there.

However, I think the best place to ask this question, really, is your former employer.

Since they are based in Arizona, you may also want to ask the relevant Arizona Government Agency. That link is here:

https://des.az.gov/services/employme...ent-individual

And, if your official residence remained California while you were overseas (meaning you paid income taxes in California), then perhaps a call to California's unemployment department would be necessary.

Here is the link for that: http://www.edd.ca.gov/Unemployment/

Good luck!

Thanks

I will research a few avenues. I do not want to ask my employer yet as it has not been determined if the role is finished or not. I was attempting to do some homework upfront in preparation
