Default I could be wrong.

Would be nice.
However there isn't enough housing to support it yet and it would take way too long to build out to accommodate the influx of people. The housing (affordable-ish) inventory is already low and housing demand is spurring developers to build more shoddy "lux" homes than basic quality ones.
Even in sheety school districts. Imo.

I'm guessing they want to mimic the DT Seattle vibe - major high rise, CBD type of HQ. Concord (or any other edge city) ain't gonna cut it.

So which downtown, in a major metro that is substantially less expensive than our West Coast urban cores, is going to win this?

We're talking either flyover or the less expensive parts of the East/Gulf coast.

Yeah, I don't see it happening in a suburban area, either. I'm thinking they'll go with a large-ish medium-sized city or smaller major-sized city. Of which, they'll have a lot to choose from.

They have emphasized a desire for good transit access, though, and that might limit the cities that qualify.

That said, I don't see them going for the Bay Area (or, for that matter, anywhere on the west coast). They'll keep a significant presence here, for sure - but there is too much redundancy by being here, and you're often competing for the same talent (people attracted to the SF Bay Area will often be attracted to the Seattle area).

It makes more sense for them to branch east.

The front runners are Chicago, Austin, and Atlanta

My thoughts too. Plus, it's not like it would be any cheaper to operate here. I would think they'd want to see some financial gains in this. If they can pull some people into the midwest from crowded cities like SF and Seattle, by all means, please do!

My bet is on Kansas City, SLC, or maybe some place in CO or Tennessee.
