Disclaimer - If I do offend anyone in this post, that is not my intention. Also note this is a naive post

I don't live in SF, but have always worked in tech. Specifically, I have always worked for Silicon Valley nicely VC funded tech companies. I visit SF at least every other month. Therefore, I'm kinda sorta in that "bubble". I feel like every time I walk down Market St, 90% of the pple I walk by work in some tech company

Being in the tech bubble, everyone I'm surrounded by is financially very well off and fit into the typical tech stereotype. But let's be real, SF is not all tech, and definitely not everyone in SF is bringing in $150k+/year

For those that don't, how do you feel? Don't you feel left out? You live in a city where 1 industry just flat out dominates it and you are not in that industry. Don't you feel like financially you don't fit and are living above your means? Why don't you move? How does peer pressure affect you?

Feel left out of what? Many of us left peer pressure behind in grade school so I don't know what you are talking about.

I have a real life with real friends who can see past their naval.

This is actually hilarious!!!

I'm not in the Tech industry, but that doesn't mean I'm automatically "less" than everyone else in SF who is (though people act like this). I make a comfortable living, don't live paycheck to paycheck, can afford pretty much anything I'd like to. As a matter of fact, I'd venture out to say I have less than debt than most in SF/the tech industry.

If it bothers people that they are not in the "tech boom" while living in the Bay Area, they have some very soft feelings or insecurities.

Many of my friends do not work in tech. Me working in tech does not define me.

Everyone has sucky coworkers. Everyone has office politics. The biggest difference between me and my friends who make less money is what we spend on and how we allocate our dollars.

And some times I'll plan an expensive outing. But I'll build it so you can participate on any budget. And be mindful that not everyone has the same amount of disposable income. For some people a movie is their budget for the weekend. For other people you can pair the movie with dinnner and drinks after.

No one is "less than" because they do not work in tech. But hopefully you can recognize it is a bubble and it won't last forever. Appreciate your perks while they last.

I dont know why not working in the main industry would make you feel left out and wanting to move.

It feels great! Aside from the economic benefits techies and the tech industry is probably one of the most annoying things about SF and the Bay Area. Very people i know work in tech and many of them make a good living and own their own homes already. Glad I don't have to worry about possibly having to commute to the South Bay or Peninsula let alone live there. The rat race culture sounds terrible too.

Also tech isn't SF's biggest industry at all. Healthcare and tourism are bigger industries in the city. Most people you see downtown, the one's actually dressed like white collar professionals, likely work in one of SF's more traditional, long time industries like finance, law, etc..

Since tech is not the only high paid gig in town I'm not sure what you are talking about? I think you are assuming that most think just like you. They just don't. As long as you are happy...

Everyone in the Bay Area hates techies. While they may be left out of the Silicon Valley gold rush, they're certainly in the ever-growing population of people who complain about you. Do you feel left out?

Speak for yourself. Everyone does not 'hate' techies. You derail your argument by speaking for a region of 7 million. I believe in diversity.
