Everyone concerned about breathing the fire smoke needs to purchase the correct mask to filter out the particulates. Those basic "hospital" masks DO NOT filter out the particulates. The mask that is needed is a N95 Particulate mask.
They are cheap to buy by the box, you can even get washable ones.

N95 filters 95% of particulates.

N99 would be 99% and so on.

Important to note these do not filter out odors... unless they also have other medium such as charcoal.

Doesn't look good for at least the next few days.
Thank you. I ended up spending the day in SF and the air, while not great, wasn't too bad. My throat hurt a little after a few hours of being sedentary. Other than that it was okay. Visibility was poor, but the sunset was a pretty orange from all the smoke.

Right now in SF, air quality is yellow/moderate, but here in Sunnyvale it is red/unhealthy -- right now at 2 AM.

Suppose to get worse before better with the winds predicted to be a real problem later.

Just saw on the news that the air quality in San Francisco (right now) is as bad, if not worse, than that in Beijing. You all have my sympathy. Hope SF gets a nice stiff wind soon to blow it out.

Searching this interactive map, it appears Steele Lane was not affected.

A few hours ago, on a local radio station in Houston, they announced that Peanuts creator Charles Schultz's home has burned to the ground, but that his widow got out safe and sound.

Has the fire been put out or is it still burning?
