The same stupid arguments used to be used against CA wines when people insisted they'd never be as good as ones from Europe. Whoops!
What? Wine? Who would buy any wine outside of 2 buck Chuck from Trader Joes or Franzia?!

Wine snobs, that's who!!

You are so right about this. One of the best meals of my life was at a fine dining restaurant in Mexico City. It was a few years back, but I still remember every course, it was that good.

La Viga in Redwood City is a superb high-end Mexican restaurant. The chef trained at several French restaurants in SF. The food is fresh and original, and the service is good.

Don't know about Californios, but I did live next door to the place in the early 1980s and I still have friends in the area. On the same block is a no-name bar (corner of Capp and 22nd) frequented by gang members. To get in you have to pass a frisk-search. I used to live upstairs.

Thanks for the tip on La Viga!

Forgot to mention: There are two great Mexican restaurants in Redwood City, both run by the same chef. LV Mar in the downtown is the upscale restaurant. Really interesting food. La Viga, located east of downtown, is more of a typical Mexican restaurant, a lunch place but with an unusual twist. For example, you can get Mexican-style clam chowder there. LV Mar is a total originally Mexican restaurant, Mexican food with French styling.

Fortunately there is Yelp! If they are high end they should get some comfortable seating instead of hard uncomfortable wooden picnic tables with no back support. I would not sit at such uncomfortable tables even if they gave me a free dinner. It looks worse than a fast food restaurant for seating comfort!

Read my correction post above. La Viga is the lunch place. LV Mar is the upscale place. Both are excellent. Sorry you have no backbone.
