It's the Bay Area. It's part of ABAG and MTC. Most commuters are going towards SF...a lot more reasons why it's part of the Bay Area than Sacramento.

It's the Bay Area. You could make a case for Vacaville being in the Bay Area (it's Sac Metro), but there shouldn't be any argument about Fairfield whatsoever.

There are 9 counties which constitute the "Bay Area". Solano Co is one of them. Fairfield is in Solano Co. So any city in Solano Co would be still part of the Bay Area--even Vacaville.

If one is solely going by distance from San Francisco, then many towns in Sonoma and Napa Counties like Petaluma, Half Moon Bay, Sebastopol, Santa Rosa would be even farther from San Francisco than Fairfield. In other counties like Santa Clara or Alameda---Milpitas, Saratoga, Livermore etc would also be farther than Fairfield from San Francisco.

Herb Caen used to joke about Dixon being party of the Bay Area, but there you go.

In my view, from a city perspective, Benicia and Vallejo are definitely Bay Area, without any question. Fairfield and Suisun could be considered a gateway to both the Bay and the Valley, while Vacaville is not the Bay at all. It's a Sacramento suburb in my view.

Fairfield is midway between San Francisco and Sacramento and does not have a Bay Area vibe at all.

I definitely connect it with Sacramento and not the SF Bay Area. It's housing prices reflect that.
