I will be visiting SF in the next month or two for a long trip, and plan on staying in the Union Square or Wharf Area. I love sleeping with fresh air instead of AC. Does anyone know a good hotel that lets you really and fully open the windows? I can't stand the modern trend of the window being sealed shut. The big name hotels in the area seem to have sealed windows. With SF having some of the best weather around its definitely a shame, particularly as its much more environmentally friendly than AC!

Any tips, recommendations, appreciated.

Well, considering that most hotels in SF don't have AC, and some do have big bay windows, you shouldn't have too hard a time finding what you want. I'm surprised some seal their windows shut; safety issues, maybe?? I might suggest you also look around Russian Hill, which is in-between the two areas you're considering. Great views, great neighborhood! Fewer homeless problems than Union Square. Maybe look for smaller hotels, or even a condo to rent, for windows that open. (Just thinking out loud, OP.) How long will you be in town?

Considering the funk of San Francisco in some areas, you may actually wish that their windows didn't open. Probably best would to narrow it down to a few hotels that interest you and then call them directly to ask. Good luck!

You have better luck in the Wharf area. I read if you leave your window open, you wake up to find things missing from your hotel.
