Many private schools offer admission if you donate a large sum of money to the school to help fund them and add to their research. It is public information for those schools that apply to anyone who can afford it. That is different than working with corrupt officials, scamming, forging documents, etc. And what, you think Bush and Trump are the only families that use this method of acceptance? Even schools like Pepperdine have these policies.

So, one is illegal bribery and one is legal. I don't see too much difference between the two, to be honest. Both are allowing people with the financial means to give their kids a leg up on the competition at the expense of a more deserving kid. Just shows how our society is not a meritocracy.

As I pointed out elsewhere yesterday: at least these wealthy folks aren’t stealing bicycles and shoplifting 7-11 sandwiches like the riff-raff poor dregs of society are known to do ... let’s hear it for the classy crimes of the rich and famous!

The Bush kids could go to Yale anyway, and wouldn't even need good grades to do it, because their dad went there. That's all that's necessary. No donation needed. Bush probably gave to Yale, simply because he wanted to support his alma mater. A chunk of that donated money goes toward scholarships for students in financial need.

Why are all these people raising such slacker kids, that they have to buy their kids' way into college?! One couple's kid couldn't qualify for admission to USC? Really?? What's so prestigious about USC, they Muffy or Johnny just HAD to have that on their resume? What's wrong with these people?

Trump and Ivanka went to Fordham first before transferred to Wharton. Back then you don’t need high stats or anything to get into Fordham. I know because mine of my kids applied there.

And doesn't the bribery thing seem like a bizarre contortion? If someone wants to get into an undergraduate program via excessive funding- then go for it- I think that GPA becomes an accreditation issue when it comes to admissions into graduate programs- which is something that I think generally is insisted upon with few exception- as it should be. A school that lets anyone below a 3.0 into a masters program is not very dedicated to academic excellence ..and therefore not prestigious..

What I found interesting is that none of them bribed to get into UCBerkeley, cause if they did their kids probably would fail there.
