Cool and breezy (windy) with daytime temps in the 50's and 60's, although it might get into the 70's once in a while. Night time temps in the high 40's and low 50's. Dress in layered clothing. Bring sweater(s) and a coat or jacket. Shorts and T-shirts are not recommended.

Well, it depends where you are. I often wear t-shirts and shorts during the day in May or June - IF I am staying in my neighborhood. The city has so many micro-climates. I live in one of the warmest and sunniest parts. If I ever leave my neighborhood, I always bring a sweatshirt even though I may leave in shorts and sandels - my legs stay warmer than my upper body. However, at night, no matter where I am - usually jeans and a jacket.

shorts and t-shirts will be just fine as long as you make sure to bring a light jacket.

I have thick legs, so cold weather doesnt really bother me

It can be warm in many parts of the city, while at the same time it's foggy elsewhere. Also, it might be warm, and then later it'll get windy and/or foggy. Just keep shorts to a minimum, and bring a jacket/windbreaker and sweater, and you should be fine. It doesn't get too cold, but the wind can add a bite sometimes.

well, generally speaking.

When you wake up in the morning, there's usually a layer of fog that blankets parts of the city. By 10 or 11 the fog gives way to sunny, crisp blue skies. Temps usually max out in the high 60s and low 70s. for every 5 miles you go inland add 3 degrees or so.

Then around 5ish, the fog rolls back in and remains throughout the night until the next morning when the process begins all over again.

There is almost never any rain.

Don't listen to the people saying shorts weather. You don't want to be one of those tourists we laugh at because they're freezing their butt off.

Except for the late afternoon when the sun is out and it hits the peak temperature, you'll want at least a light jacket.

They're freezing in their shorts and flip flops usually asking for directions to Fisherman's Wharf. We always tell people who visit us from the east coast to pack warm clothes. They think we're exaggerating, but when they get out here, it's another story.

I've been living here for two years and the only times I wore shorts...I was on vacation!

Amen to that! My mom (who grew up in SoCal) asked if it would be too hot to visit in August, I laughed so hard I fell off the chair! I'd bring a heavier coat if I were you, I'm sure you'll want to do some of that fun stuff like Alcatraz or Sausalito and you need a coat out on the water. You will also need a coat if you want to go to a baseball game, it gets really cold at night, especially at AT&T park. Forget shorts, I need winter tights if I wear a skirt in May-Sept, I don't dare from October-April. I wear tshirts all the time, but as my base layer under a long sleeve shirt, a sweater and a jacket or coat.

I don't even own a pair of shorts... LOL. My joke is that you can spot a tourist by the shorts, sandals, and San Francisco sweatshirt - which they bought on Market St. when they realized how cold it was! Always carry a jacket in SF, no matter what time of day or year it is. We do have our moments of warm weather, but it can change in an instant, and you'll regret leaving that coat at home.
