Using the calculator in that link in one of my previous postings, $600 in 1990 is approx $1,360 in today's dollars. You could probably find a somewhat decent studio in Oakland in the $1,500 to $1,600 range.....the elevated crime rate in Oakland is likely a factor in holding down rents some.
