Default Help getting from SFO to Hayward BART

I need to get from SFO to the Hayward BART station around 12:30AM July 5th. The trip planner on Transit.511.org isn't being very helpful - suggesting I wait until 6:30AM for a bus. Does anyone happen to know which lines I need to ride, and where to transfer?

I think the problem is that you're arriving too late, since BART (and many buses) stops running around midnight - and doesn't resume until 6:30am, apparently. Sorry, but you might be in trouble! It wouldn't be a ridiculously expensive cab ride, which might be your only option at that time... unless you're willing to pay me $20 for a ride, LOL.

To clarify - by SFO you do mean the airport, right? Some people (usually from out-of-town) get confused & call San Francisco SFO, so I just want to make sure!

511.org confirmed what I said... "There is no transit going from SFO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT to Hayward BART at the time specified."

Thanks for the help gizmo980.

Did some manual schedule reading on the web site. Here's the "All Nighter" bus listing, which the trip planner doesn't seem to be including -

Transit.511.org

Looks like SamTrans 397 North, followed by AC Transit 800 West, followed by AC Transit 801 South would work. That mess of a route wouldn't arrive until past 4:30AM however.

If my plane arrives on time (LOL) I could theoretically catch the last BART. Does MacArthur have more than two platforms? If so, how do I get from a Pittsburg/Bay Point bound train to a Fremont bound train? Wouldn't want to miss my "timed transfer" trying to figure out where to go!

MacArthur and the rest of the Oakland stops in that line do have more than two platforms. I would get off early, at 12th St Oakland, and make the transfer there.

Sometimes you just need to bounce it off of people. I can't depend on my car to start in the morning so I know all of the public transit systems very well.

Unwise advice above - just take a cab straight from SFO to Hayward BART. Public transit isn't worth the incredible aggravation at that late hour. It might cost you 40 bucks, but you saved that already by taking such a late flight.

Besides, even if you caught that last BART train, by the time you get to Oakland (45 min), it will be too late for any more trains on the Richmond-Fremont line and you'll be stuck in Oakland...looking for a cab anyway in a less-than-wonderful area after midnight. And you'll still have to pay the 40 bucks...

Not true. If you leave any station at midnight you can get anywhere else in the BART system before they all go to bed for the night. Well, 11:53 in this case.

OK, three important questions...

1. What time is the flight supposed to arrive?

2. What gate are you landing at? (just tell me the airline & I'll know)

3. Will you be checking bags?

The answers to these questions will determine what time you'll ACTUALLY get to the train... but I personally think it's a long-shot, especially considering SFO's tendency for late arrivals & lost luggage. Unless you really can't afford it, take a cab - save yourself the hassle!
