Hello All

Trying to get out of Atlanta. Realize the cost in San Fran is double. I am realistically looking for a studio from around $900-$1200 rent a month in a relatively safe area. I only need about 500-700 sq feet. I am a mininimalist hardly any "stuff". My goal is to loose my vehicle/insurance/tickets/gas, which should supplement the differnce in housing etc. Relative safety and public transport are the focus. Any surrounding area is fine as long as I can get around by train/bus/bike/bipedal

Thanks.

Without a car, you'll probably need to live in San Farncisco or in the East Bay in some area such as Oakland, Berkeley, Emeryville or Albany and live near the BART line to get around BART Station Locator.

Rent will be a little cheaper in the suburbs than in San Francisco itself. SF has very good public transit as does the Oakland area.

How is the Lake Merritt area. It looks very commutable?

If you are looking to rent in SF, try Glen Park. I have a good friend renting a huge 1br there for 1200.00. She is within walking distance of the shopping district there, BART and several bus lines. She doesn't own a car and used to work in Berkeley so it's quite doable to live in the city. Also Nob Hill has some apts about that price range. Good luck!
