Default Sonoma to 101 - best route?

Hi All,

I'm wondering if a Sonoma resident can tell me which is the best route to get from the town of Sonoma to the 101 N in the morning, and about how long it takes. I know you can take Hwy 37 or Stagegulch Rd and I've heard of a few other routes. Which do you think is the best and how long would it take in the mornings? Thank you so much!

It depends on where you are trying to get on 101 north. To get to 37 you are actually going south...so to go north on 101 this way is silly unless you are going somewhere in Novato. If you are traveling upstate on 101 then the best way is to go to Santa Rosa and then north from there (Hwy 12 goes all the way from Sonoma to 101N. Takes about 45 minutes.).

So I guess my question is where on 101N are you trying to get to?

Yeah, it all depends on where you're going. If you're headed to Novato, San Rafael or San Francisco, take 37. Petaluma or Rohnert Park, take Stage Gulch to Lakeville Rd. Santa Rosa or points north, take 12.

I would take Arnold Dr to Agua Caliente Rd, then Hwy 12 if you're going to Santa Rosa. The traffic just north of Sonoma on Hwy 12 can be pretty bad.
