If you're coming out for a visit I'll give you the same advice as I would give any ill informed tourist going to Ireland for the first time..don't step into a pub and try to "connect" with people using religion or politics..The same would apply in San Francisco as it would anywhere in the world..don't talk about it with strangers.

Yeah you know there's an old quote of Robin Williams for some time ago, when asked "Why do you live in San Francisco?" he replied," Here in San Francisco you can walk down the street passed a midget nun in drag and nobody cares, and I feel like, 'Hey I'm not so odd anyway, I'm really doing o.k.!'"

have a nice visit here!

Thanks. Sounds like we should pick and choose our areas, but I think we'll have a good time.

2) I notice you didnt comment on the post mine was a response to; the one that said liberals 'well-read' and that presumably less-educated ones 'like me' would be viewed as a curiosity. Wouldn't your stats on the GOP-college grad link have been more appropos for that poster? Also, Bush demolished Kerry among those who attended college and those with four-year degrees. Only the professional students and the dropouts went for Kerry. I guess you could say Kerry got the non-producer vote.

3) Your implication that the college-grad vote is starting to trend towards the Democrats is ludicrous. You cite the 1988 election as representative that "the GOP historically owned the college-grad vote" with Bush winning it by 25 points. In that rout, Bush won most groups by a large margin. Just a mere four years later, Clinton beat Bush handily in the college vote all the way across the board. So nope. Educated voters aren't trending towards the Democrats.

I vowed at the start of the thread not to get into a political debate. but when somebody implies a conservative might not be able to stand up to San Franciscans in a debate because they are "well-read and educated", well, it's time to dispel both the premise and the claim. So I did.
I didn't agree with the post you responded to either. However, your post was equally rife with generalizations, but instead of apologizing for it, your essentially saying, "Well, his was just as bad first!!" I don't respect that.

Re: Bush smashing Kerry. College graduates with 4-year degrees voted for him equally: 49-49% I posted the link. Where Bush smashed Kerry was in those who simply attended college (and did not graduate) and I did not take this into consideration. I also negated all of the liberal-arts majors with post-graduate degrees where Kerry beat Bush. That's pretty fair -- what you have left are those with undergraduate degrees and they were pretty down the line. Not Bush smashing Kerry. And even if that was the case, I also took umbrage with your logic that this concludes that conservatives are more educated than liberals, which you also side-stepped. Did I offend you by declaring that liberals were instead, more educated? No, that cant be it -- because I never said it.

What I DID do was explain WHY historically more college graduates have voted conservative (And that's what I said -- not sure how you derived the opposite of that). I thought I made it clear how in every facet of life, when you have more to lose, you will take what appears to be a more conservative path. You see, I'm not about partisanship. I want to know why things really happen because it's not about republican and democrat - things are never so black and white and there are many facets to why we each think differently than the next. I guess I expected too much. You did, afterall, essentially troll on to the SF forum with one of the most ridiculous questions I've seen.

Might as well have asked, "If I stick a W bumper sticker from my car and put it on my face, fill my mouth with 18 ciggarettes with a Nascar jacket on and a picture of someone pissin' on a Chevy motor on your hat, do you think people will look at me funny?" Buddy, walk through Birmingham, Alabama like a complete tool-bag and I'm sure they're going to look at you funny there too.

My advice is this: Come to San Francisco, put your politics aside and just enjoy life and appreciate the different cultures and subcultures of the world. It's an international city with alot of different types of people and you're only going to stick out like a sore thumb if you're trying to.

Eeeee22895, You aren't a conservative if you like George Bush you're a Neo-con. George Bush was the biggest socailist president. Clothes from the goodwill would look good compared to dressing like a cowboy.

'Neocon' is a term created by liberals to disparage religious conservatives. It has no meaning. While it's true Bush went along with Democrats on some big domestic spending programs, it is absurd to call him a socialist or anything approaching that.

Bush smashing Kerry. College graduates with 4-year degrees voted for him equally: 49-49% I posted the link.

You don't read responses. You just go on talking. Bush beat Kerry handling on those with some college, and those with 4-year degrees only. The edge was evened when you add the professional student vote. You have to look at the particulars of your own source. The professional student vote skewed the college vote.

What I DID do was explain WHY historically more college graduates have voted conservative (And that's what I said -- not sure how you derived the opposite of that).

You also implied the trend of college grads going GOP is reversing. That is false. I showed why. Again, you go right on talking without reading.

Might as well have asked, "If I stick a W bumper sticker from my car and put it on my face, fill my mouth with 18 ciggarettes with a Nascar jacket on and a picture of someone pissin' on a Chevy motor on your hat, do you think people will look at me funny?"

See, you again paint a disparaging and false generalizations of conservatives. Liberals are the smokers, the motorheads and the undeducated rednecks. Democrats traditionally win the dumbass vote hands down.
