I will be attending my brother in law's wedding in late June in San Fran. Could anyone tell me what to expect as to weather? I have no idea what to wear and have been told the weather could be as low as the 40's. It is really hard to find a dress for chilly weather in a summer color in Florida. Any ideas?

You want easy to wear layers. In the sunshine you will be warm, and night it will be quite chilly, and in the morning it very well could be very foggy and cold.

That's if the wedding is in San Francisco proper...

It's not out of the ordinary to have 60-100 degree weather in the Bay Area -- 60 at the coast and 100 inland.

As for dressing for here in a summer color? If you're wearing a sleeveless summer cotton dress, you'll want to take along a light cotton sweater, and at night carry a standard lined blazer. If you wear a short sleeved dressy dress -- usually made with a more substantial material than cotton -- maybe silk? Silk is warmer -- carry a cashmere wrap. Something very tossable over the shoulders and light and airy, and yet if you hit a pocket of cold you wrap it tighter and get warmer.

It depends on exactly where the wedding is, since we have tons of "microclimates" throughout the city... for instance, the neighborhood where I live (southeast) is sunnier but super windy, and the western side is really foggy. But we have a habit here of always carrying a jacket, regardless of the season, time of day, and weather at that time - because you never know!! Usually it's chilly when I leave for work, warm and sunny at lunchtime, and windy/cold when I get out. So like the last poster said, it's smart to layer & be prepared for anything. Have fun!

You both are a wealth of knowledge. I knew I was coming to the right place!
The wedding is in Berkeley, outside in the early evening. The reception is indoors. I was looking at a sleeveless dress and was wondering if a wrap would be sufficient or would I need a coat. I am not used to the cold being from Florida and although I am willing to tough it out for the sake of fashion, my 15 year old daughter will complain if she is slightly chilly. Thanks for your help.

Berkeley, outdoor early evening -- mid weight wrap. If you have a cashmere wrap just make sure it covers your arms. As the wedding goes it'll get chillier... Berkeley hills gets foggy and damp -- it's actually the marine layer from the ocean sneaking it's way in -- but there's a ridge of hills that the layer gets stuck on -- Berkeley is in those hills.
