It all depends what you want... In many ways it's an excellent place to live, on the flipside of the coin it would fail to meet the criteria for many families.

I would say no, it's not because not everyone is going to enjoy living here. The 'best city to live' is subjective. Depends on the person.

Overall, I would say San Francisco is the most complete City-in the sense that it is a truly vibrant urban environment with all the amenities AND is naturally stunning.

How can anyone really say what is the best city in the country. I don't care how much you think of a place, there is no such thing as the "best" city. It depends on what an individaul is looking for in a home. SFO has a lot to offer, but has many problems as well. NYC is also an awesome place, but so is Bentonville, AR for the right person, or Austin and how about Dallas, Tampa, or Kansas City, Kansas?

I have lived in Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Washington D.C., New York City, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Singapore and Sydney, Australia and have been to numerous other cities around the world.
San Francisco has everything...all in a very small area.
If you count the entire Bay Area, access to: Tahoe, Napa, Yosemite, Santa Cruz...it is tough to beat.
#1 IMO.

No. For the average person, it is not. Great place for singles and DINKs, with lot of money. But for the average person, there are better places to live, from an overall perspective of optimal living.
